Description
Bright sunshine hit these Mountain Laurel buds on my early morning walk. I was intrigued by their shape, and the way their cluster is formed - like a little closed up star, or one of those marshmallow ice cream cones I used to get as a child, or, as one friend described - a ballerina, because when the bud opens, it looks like the full skirt of a dancing ballerina.
The Mountain Laurel is most known for its reproductive methods, in which it creates tension on its stamens and flings its pollen onto insects. It is possible for the Mountain Laurel to release pollen in a range of up to six inches. Though beautiful, Mountain Laurel is highly toxic to both humans and animals, when ingested.
